Gilbert Burns was a less known face in the UFC Welterweight division before his win over former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley. He emerged as a dark horse in the division after he defeated Woodley. The win over Woodley was enough to give him a title shot against the curent Welterweight Champion Kumaru Usman.
While speaking with Helen Yee, Gilbert Burns hinted at his advantages over Kumaru Usman. He explained in detail about his advantages over the Champion Kumaru Usman and whole Welterweight division.
“I see a lot of advantages,” Burns said. “For sure my jiu jitsu. Any wrestlers in this division, Colby Covington, try taking me down. Just try it. I’ll be more than happy to not make it easy for guys to take me down. I might defend the shot or even take you guys down. As soon as I get on top, or even on bottom, I’m able to submit or even sweep or do whatever with any one of these guys in the division.”
Burns further added that it was his explosiveness that makes him the most dangerous man in 170-pound division.
“Not only for the champion, but for anyone, I’m a threat on my feet too,” Burns said. “I can kick, I can punch. I hit way harder than these guys. I have all the explosiveness. I’m fresh in the division. I don’t know how I didn’t make that change [from lightweight to welterweight] before, but right now I feel so good for that division.”
Gilbert Burns ready for the fight

Gilbert Burns has got clarification about his COVID-19 tests and the report has been negative. Now, he is ready for his title shot against Kumaru Usman. He will be waiting for Usman to step back inside the Octagon.
Several people have said that Gilbert Burns has a very high chance of victory over Kumaru Usman. The former two-division Champion Daniel Cormier has even stated that Burns would have defeated Usman if Burns wouldn’t have tested positive for the virus.
