UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas is clearly headed to becoming one of the all-time great champions in mixed martial arts history if she defeats Carla Esparza in the rematch, but she wants that undisputed status of being the best of all time, a legacy that can stand the test of time in the long run. Esparza and Namajunas are seeing each other for a title fight rematch in the co-main event this weekend at UFC 274 in Footprint Center, Pheonix, Arizona, the United States.

Namajunas first fought Esparza in the finale of the 20th Season of The Ultimate Fighter, where Esparza defeated Namajunas via third-round submission victory and became the inaugural UFC women’s strawweight champion. The fight happened nearly 8 years ago and since then, both Namajunas and Esparza have come a long way. On her evolution as a fighter, Namajunas has become the first-ever 2-time UFC strawweight champion and is currently holding the belt with a title defence as well.

In the pre-fight media scrum, Namajunas talks about her growth as a fighter so far, thinking about the first fight with Esparza again and much more. In the midst of all this, Namajunas emphasised the importance of the rematch with Esparza in relation to her legacy. UFC 274 is headlined by a title fight between the UFC Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira defending his belt for the second time against Namajunas’ teammate Justin Gaethje.

What I see is, I’m clearly the best, obviously,” says Namajunas It’s just a question of whether I am the greatest in the division of all time and I think this [rematch against Esparza] is a huge step towards that for me, that’s the big test… what I am looking to do is set myself apart… I am working my butt to set that distance between all of us [her and the previous champions],” Namajunas concludes.

What do you make of Rose Namajunas‘ assessment of the magnitude of the rematch with Carla Esparza on her record? Do you think Namajunas has already proved herself to be the greatest strawweight fighter in UFC history? Also, who do you think wins the rematch between the 2 best 115-lbs female mixed martial artists on the planet?
