Boston Celtics’ youngest and most spoken about player Jayson Tatum reveals he wanted to play for Los Angeles Lakers. Coming into the league in 2017, Tatum was the #3 pick for the Boston Celtics. Idealizing LA Lakers from his childhood, Tatum’s hero was Kobe Bryant. He reveals that growing up he wanted to play alongside and had no idea where Celtics even is. But as the LA Lakers picked up Lonzo Ball #2 pick in the same year’s draft, it broke Jayson Tatum’s heart.

When Kobe Bryant was retiring in 2016, Tatum played for Duke University averaging more than 16 points and 2.1 assists per game in a total of 29 contests. No wonder it caught the eyes of several NBA scouts, but sadly for Tatum, Celtics’ scouts. In a recent interview Tatum revealed what it was like joining the Boston Celtics in the draft.

“My idol was Kobe Bryant everyone knew that” Jayson Tatum on wanting to join LA Lakers

“My favorite player and my idol was Kobe and everybody know that. So, I didn’t like the Celtics at all going up there. I only grew up, I was like, I’m gonna play for the Lakers. Honestly, I never knew what Boston was at. Like I knew only East Coast. But, I’d never been there, I never thought about going there. So, when I got drafted, it was kind of crazy. Like, I used to hate Celtics, and now, it worked out. Everything happen for a reason and I’m surely thankful to be here with this opportunity.”

Having said that, Jayson Tatum’s performance since his first season in the Celtics has been beyond written praise. Pouring out back-to-back All-Star performances, many suggest it was because of Jayson Tatum majorly that the Boston Celtics came to the Eastern Conference Finals last season.

Lastly, his playoffs 2020 average of 25.7 points, 10 boards, and 5 assists is proof that he has also worked on his streaky shooting. Today, with players like Jaylen Brown, Tacko Fall, and others on his side, Tatum has a real chance to bring the Greens back to their former glory.
