Physicality is quite a factor in all things related to combat sports. Hence, tragedy can occur at any moment due to bodily injuries, fractures, ruptures, staphs, pokes, and so on. However, it is never an expectant notion that the injury would come before a fight. One moment, Derek Anderson was gearing up for Cedric Doumbe; the next, he was out!
Cedric Doumbe last lost out PFL Europe 1, to Baissangour Chamsoudinov, a.k.a Baki. The fight already had connotations of massive buyouts, catapulted more by Doumbe’s wit and flair. It ended controversially in a TKO victory in favor of Baki via stoppage from Marc Goddard. Hence, the announcement that he’d fight Derek Anderson in the Bellator Champions Series: Paris co-headliner had renewed hopes in fans.
This became a blow as lightweight champ Usman Nurmagomedov’s title defense against Alexander Shabliy was off due to Nurmagomedov’s injury. Now comes yet another pinch of salt on the cut. Anderson took to his social media on Tuesday to post a graphic imagery of a slit & mangled foot. He mentioned being in a hit-and-run accident that had essentially put him out of the May 17 BCS: Paris event in Accor Arena.
The imagery comes from the roadside, mere moments after the incident. It isn’t yet clear if Doumbe will stay on the card, searching for a replacement for Derek Anderson. With a multi-year PFL contract extension, he bagged a 9-second KO of Jordan Zebo in his debut. Losing out to Baki, he’s eager for a return. While he hasn’t reacted to the incident, the matter has garnered many responses from fans.
Fight fans react to Derek Anderson revealing gruesome foot injury
Hardcore fight enthusiasts often watch electric scraps and try putting themselves in fighter’s shoes. Let Derek Anderson be an example, if nothing else humbles fans out to the ever-changing nature of the sport’s vulnerability. Anderson (17-4-1, 8-4 BMMA) vs. new PFL sensation Cedric Doumbe was the fight to make for Bellator Champions Series: Paris. However, he is now out due to a severe foot injury.
He recently took to IG (@derekbarbaricmma) to post a vivid snippet mere moments after the accident. This isn’t the only time ‘Barbaric’ Anderson has faced injuries as such. He had recently broken his hand and nose at Bellator 258. He received a suspension for falsifying his pre-fight medical status on kidney damage before the fight. This time, falsifying information will not get him anywhere. Check out how the fans reacted:
Almost all fans have anonymously sounded off their horror at the vivid imagery. A few have accused him of “staging” it to get out of the fight. A few others have also wished Cedric Doumbe better chances, who always seems out of luck.
The French star’s UFC debut was derailed in 2022 due to medical reasons, after which he was abruptly cut. However, fans have yet to justify that he’d be better off at UFC rather than PFL (owner of Bellator MMA). He’s now 1-1 and without a booking. All in all, the matter has gone rightfully viral.
