Marcus Stoinis scored one of the best centuries of the 2024 IPL as he smashed the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowlers for 124 off 64. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder’s century ensured the team completed the double over CSK.
After the end of the match, LSG uploaded a video of Marcus Stoinis talking about the advice former Indian captain MS Dhoni gave him. He spoke about how Dhoni told him to trust his skillset and to never do something extra.
MS Dhoni told this one thing to me. He said in big games, everyone thinks that I've got to do something extra. I've got to do something different. His mantra and how he speaks to himself is he stays there, he stands still and he says everyone else is going to change. I'm going to be the only one here that doesn't change and that holds him ahead of everyone else.Marcus Stoinis said
Stoinis’ century put LSG in the top four. Coming in to bat at number three for the first time in three years, the all-rounder scored a century in 56 balls. The all-rounder had the support of Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda, who scored 34 and 17* respectively. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also scored a historic ton, but it came in a losing cause.
Marcus Stoinis content in potentially losing spot to youngsters
Marcus Stoinis recently became the biggest name to lose a central contract with Cricket Australia. The all-rounder, who was a part of Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup, is still a regular in the white-ball team. Despite the omission, he is completely fine and doesn’t mind losing his spot to youngsters.

Me not getting a contract, I knew that a while ago. I think it is great to give younger kids a crack and let them take my spot.Marcus Stoinis in the post-match press conference
The 34-year-old added that he will continue to work hard to play for Australia and is grateful to the IPL for the chances. Despite losing his spot in the ODI team, Stoinis continues to be an important player for Australia in the shortest format.
