In his first season at PSG, Neymar earned 400 million euros
Neymar, the Brazilian forward who plays for the French club Paris Saint-Germain, got an eye-watering 400 million euros during his first season in France as a result of several commercial contracts and the influence he made on the global stage after arriving in Paris.
According to El Mundo, Neymar receives a whopping £465,000-per-month ‘ethical bonus’ as a result of an odd clause in his Paris Saint-Germain contract. Neymar’s initial deal had an option to extend it until 2023, but he signed a new contract with PSG in May 2021, and he now has a contract that extends until 2025. The winger’s salary is likely to be approximately €50,556,117 now that he has agreed to stay at the club for the sixth season.
The Brazilian international signed a new contract with PSG this summer after joining the Ligue 1 club in a world-record £222 million trade from Barcelona in 2017. After making a name for himself at Santos, the Brazilian headed to Barcelona in 2013. Later, he joined PSG in 2017 after four years of successful play for Barcelona. The £222 million cost stunned the football world, making the Brazilian striker the most expensive acquisition in history.
Paris Saint-Germain acknowledged the stunning report by El Mundo. They justified themselves, though, by claiming that bringing Neymar on board was a genuine investment for the business. In the two hours after his shirt was made available for purchase, the official club shop had taken in more than 500,000 euros.
The club further claims that if Neymar had not been present, they would not have been able to work out lucrative partnerships with the Italian brand Replay or Nike Jordan. The club also benefitted as there has been an increase in the followers of the club’s social media account. In his first season in France, TV audiences climbed by 25%, and Disney Channel has also revealed that they have purchased the rights to telecast Ligue 1 matches in Brazil, which are currently shown on ESPN and Fox Sports.
Neymar’s career with PSG
Despite his desire to return to his previous club Barcelona in 2019 following the boos during PSG‘s home game against Strasbourg, Neymar remained at the club. The French club benefited from Neymar’s decision to stay, as he scored 87 goals and provided 52 assists in 117 appearances for the French club. Neymar won three league titles, three Coupe de France, and two Coupe de la Ligue in France, including a domestic triple and was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year in his freshman season. In the 2019–20 season, Neymar helped PSG win the domestic quad and guided the club to its first Champions League Final.
Many people also believe that Neymar’s ex-Barcelona teammate and close buddy Lionel Messi would not have moved to France if the Brazilian was not at PSG.
