Jasprit Bumrah removed both the Aussie openers

The Australian batsmen were off to a cautious start in their first innings of the inaugural Test match in Adelaide. The home side opened with the pair of Joe Burns and Matthew Wade. Meanwhile, Burns was struggling to regain his lost form while Wade was opening for the first time in his Test career.

The Indian pacers took full advantage of an inexperienced opening pair of the home team. The trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav kept the kangaroos quiet for the first few overs of the match. Wade scored the first run for his team on the 28th delivery of the innings as the four overs before this went maiden.

The southpaw punched a ball off Umesh Yadav towards the boundary for four runs. With this, Australia broke their record of playing the most deliveries before scoring their first score in a Test inning in this century. However, the openers couldn’t resist much as both of them got out in quick succession.

Jasprit Bumrah got the wickets of both the openers of the opposition. He earlier found Matthew Wade Leg Before Wicket (LBW) for eight runs. Later, he removed an out-form Burns in a similar manner.

Pat Cummins picked three wickets

Virat Kohli’s men left the inaugural day’s play at 233/6 with Wriddhiman Saha and Ravi Ashwin at the crease. The team was targeting a total of 300 at the end of their first innings. However, none of the remaining India batsmen could resist as they managed to add just 11 runs to their overnight score.

Mitchell Starc emerged as the pick of the bowlers for his team with a spell of 4/53. Pat Cummins also bowled exceptionally well to claim three scalps in the first innings. On the other hand, Indian bowlers got their side back into the game after getting quick wickets of the opposition’s openers.
