Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon played his hundredth Test in the final game of the Border Gavaskar series at the Gabba. Lyon is undoubtedly the best Australian finger spinner. And second to only the great Shane Warne if we consider the leggies. Unfortunately, during his milestone Test, Lyon was not at his best as he finished the game with only three wickets as India clinched the series with a historic victory.

Following the final day’s play, stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane came up with a generous gesture to congratulate the veteran spinner. Rahane, who was exceptional as a leader, presents Lyon with a signed jersey to congratulate him on the occasion. The fact that he did so before lifting the trophy has won the hearts of cricket fans all around the World.

Yet another kind gesture from captain Rahane

Rahane is renowned for his calm and collected personality. And he came with yet another sweet gesture minutes after presenting Lyon the souvenir. The Mumbai batsman became the second Asian captain to win a Test series Down Under as he lifted the Border Gavaskar trophy.

Immediately after receiving the trophy after the game, he handed it to debutant T Natarajan. Natarajan had fairytale tour Down Under. And given that he had an off day with the ball in the second innings of his debut Test, Rahane handed him the trophy to cheer him up after a long and tedious tour.

Above all, the win propelled India to the top of the World Test Championship table while Australia slipped down to three. Next up, India plays England at home which will be their final series of the Test Championship. If they manage to win the series at home 2-0, they will seal their place at Lords for the WTC final.
