Mohammed Siraj makes his Test debut today against Australia at the MCG. Siraj lost his father at the beginning of the tour yet stuck with the team for the Test series. And his hard work and dedication were rewarded by the team management with his maiden Test cap for the Boxing Day Test. The young speedster handsomely rewarded the side’s faith in him as he sent the dangerous Marnus Labuschagne packing as his maiden Test wicket. Labuschagne was looking set for a big innings but Siraj was spot on with his plan as the rising Aussie star departed for 48.

Siraj put up a great show on debut at the MCG. And delighted with his performance, captain Ajinkya Rahane came with a ‘special gesture‘ for him. Rahane let the youngster lead the side into the dressing room during the tea break. This small yet sweet gesture would have worked miracles for the youngster’s confidence as he came back to pick up his second wicket of the game right after the break. Siraj trapped Cameron Green in front of the wickets as he notched up his second victim in Test cricket.

Rahane is renowned for his calm and collected personality. And it was not the first time ‘captain’ Rahane came up with a kind gesture to cheer someone up. The Mumbai batter’s second Test as captain was against Afghanistan in 2018. It was Afghanistan’s debut in Test cricket and India hammered the visitors by an innings and 262 runs. Despite the loss, the crowd cheered for the Afghans to lift their spirits.

During the trophy presentation for the one-off Test, Rahane invited his Afghan counterpart, Asghar Stanikzai and his boys to pose with the trophy together. His gentlemanly gesture was appreciated all around the world. The historic Test not only marked the arrival of Afghanistan in Test cricket. But Rahane’s gesture proved why cricket is called the gentleman’s game. It also established Rahane as a character who tries to cheer everyone up in his own sweet gestures on the field. And he lived up to his reputation in the Boxing Day Test.

After losing the toss, India are currently on the driver seat having bowled the hosts out for just 195 at the MCG in the second encounter. Jasprit Bumrah has been the star for the visitors with the ball with his four wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin scalped three wickets.
