India vs Australia: Boxing Day Test to witness special tribute to Dean Jones on Day 1
The second Test between India and Australia is set to take place tomorrow on Boxing Day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia are coming into the Test with a 1-0 lead after inflicting a crushing defeat on the Indians in the first Test at the Adelaide Oval. India will be desperate to bounce back from the humiliation they suffered in the second innings where they were shot out for 36 – their lowest ever score in Test matches.
The opening day of the Boxing Day Test will see a special tribute being paid to the late Australian batsman Dean Jones who breathed his last in September in Mumbai. During the tea break, a special commemoration will be observed. Meanwhile, Jones’ wife Jane Jones has confirmed that the cause of Dean’s death was not a heart attack as initially reported but a catastrophic stroke, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
Investigations in progress on exact cause of stroke
The Sydney Morning Herald has further stated that Dean Jones’ death is now under investigation by The Victorian Coroner. Although no foul play is expected, the family is keen to know whether the stroke could have arisen out of the innumerable knocks to the head Jones suffered during his playing days or a car crash that he was involved in before his death.
“It is actually under a coroner’s inquiry at the moment, not that they think there is anything other than what they have found, but just that he was a bit young to have the stroke the way it happened,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Jane as saying. Jane will be present tomorrow at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where the special tribute and commemoration will happen during tea break of what is expected to be a hotly-contested match of cricket.
