Australia head coach Justin Langer is hopeful of all-rounder Cameron Green making his Test debut against India during the inaugural match at the Adelaide Oval. Green suffered a mild concussion after a short ball from Jasprit Bumrah hit him during the pink-ball practice match at the SCG. He went off the ground after that incident to be monitored by Cricket Australia’s medical staff.

“If he’s passed fit he’ll definitely play,” Justin Langer told Channel Seven on Monday.

“We’re just going through the concussion protocols. It was a very unusual incident that happened to him. I saw him last night, he had a big smile on his face, he had another test this morning that we got good news on him. He’s earned the right for selection. If he’s fit and available, he’ll make his Test debut.”

Cameron Green is currently in Adelaide who flew with the Test squad, scheduled to face India on December 17. His availability will be a massive boost to the home side as they already have several selection vows ahead of them.

Marnus Labuschagne won’t be opening: Langer

The biggest worry in front of the Aussies before the opening clash is their unsettled opening pair. Their regular opener David Warner has been ruled out from the Adelaide Test after he picked a groin injury during the ODI series against India. Moreover, other possible players like Will Pukovski and Joe Burns are still finding their lost forms. Meanwhile, Justin Langer confirmed that Marnus Labuschage would continue to bat at number three as he’s done well there.

“I have been backing Joe the whole time,” Langer said. “He’s a very good player, you don’t lose your talent overnight. He also understands that runs are the greatest currency to any player and he’s been a bit light on. We’ll get eyes on him today, see how he’s going, have a chat with him and we’ll make our decision on who will open in the next day or so.

“Marnus won’t be opening, he’s done an amazing job at No. 3. Steve Smith does an amazing job at No. 4. We’ll try and stay as settled as possible while Davy (Warner) is injured. We’ve got some tough decisions to be made,’ Langer signed off.
