India secured one of their most famous wins in Test cricket history after a terrific performance on the final day of the final Test against Australia at the Gabba. The Aussie had never lost at the stadium in the last 32 years but the young and inexperienced Indian line-up showed resilience, character and grit to pull off the unthinkable and etch their name in cricketing folklore for a truly unprecedented victory.

It was a stunning collective batting effort that did it for India as the likes of Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant got half-centuries on a dangerous Gabba pitch. The victory was sealed with 3 overs to spare in the day and the Indians ran onto the field to celebrate a spectacular series win.

Ashwin posts cheeky tweet after victory

After the match ended, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who did not take part in the final Test due to an injury took to Twitter to react to the end of the series. He wrote, “Good evening from Gabba!! I am sorry I couldn’t play here but thanks for hosting us and playing some hard cricket during these tough times. We will remember this series forever! @tdpaine36 @CricketAus”

The mention of Aussie skipper Tim Paine was a cheeky reference as Paine had told Ashwin that he couldn’t “wait to get him to the Gabba” during the third Test in Sydney that was drawn. Ashwin had retorted then saying that he couldn’t wait to get Paine to India.

Ashwin then posted a follow-up tweeting mentioning the various experts who had predicted a 4-0 whitewash for Australia and wrote, “LHS ( not = ) RHS ! Yours happily, India tour of OZ 2020/21. Humbled by all the love and support we have received over the last 4 weeks!”
