India vs Australia: ‘Have to have a tighter technique for opening’ – Brad Hogg identifies ‘better suited’ position for Prithvi Shaw

While India garnered a lot of criticism for their poor batting show in Adelaide. Prithvi Shaw has also drawn flack from the cricketing fraternity for his no show in the pink-ball Test. Many experts pointed out the flaw in his technique as he notched up scores of 0 and 4 in the series opener. As his string of low scores continues, calls for dropping him from the side for the Boxing Day Test has been rampant on social media.
He performed better than one of the best in the business
With all the ruckus around Shaw’s performance, Brad Hogg has identified a suitable position for him in the Test side. The former Australia spinner feels that Shaw’s techniques are well suited for the old ball. And he should bat at number four in the side. Hogg points out that the Indian opener’s technique is too loose to face the Aussies’ wrath with the new ball.
“Exactly right. His flaw is playing on the up & away from his body. Conditions like Adelaide you open yourself up against the new ball. Have to have a tighter technique for opening. He maybe be better suited at 4 with his natural method against older ball,” Hogg tweeted replying to a fan’s query.
The former chinaman went on to joke that Shaw scored more runs that modern-day great Steve Smith in the pink-ball Test. While Shaw scored only four runs in the span of two innings, Smith notched up scores of 1 in both the innings, being unbeaten in the second innings.
“Everyone on the back of Shaw, have a look at this stat. So far he has performed better than one of the best in the business. Fun facts, thanks Nitro and thanks for following,” he wrote on Twitter.
As far as reports go, it is understood that the promising youngster will be facing the axe for the upcoming game with Shubman Gill filling up for him. Shaw has been under weather ever since the IPL and also failed to get going in the tour games.
