India buried the ghosts of their humiliating defeat against Australia in the first Test at the Adelaide Oval by registering a facile win in the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Indian bowlers delivered at the MCG by bowling out the Australians with ease in both innings. With the bat, the star of the show was stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane who scored a century in the first innings before seeing the small chase through in the second.

With the win, India have levelled the four-match series with the next two Test scheduled to be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground and The Gabba. After the 36-debacle in the first Test, many had predicted a whitewash in favor of Australia due to India’s poor form and also the absence of stars like Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma. However, India proved their doubters wrong with a clinical win in the second Test.

‘Winning against the odds is always special’ – Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan was one such doubter who predicted a 4-0 whitewash in favor of Australia before the tour begin and reiterated the same after India’s loss at the Adelaide Oval. But with India’s victory today, his prediction came crashing down and the Englishman acknowledged the same yesterday when the Aussies were struggling and said, “Humble pie for Breakfast … !!! Love the under dog proving people wrong … also shows once again if Steve Smith struggles with the Bat this Aussie Batting team is very average …@ajinkyarahane88 captaincy has been magnificent btw (sic).”

Vaughan then followed up his tweet with a message congratulating India for ‘winning against the odds’ while congratulating Ajinkya Rahane and young opener Shubman Gill.

Despite being proved wrong with regard to his whitewash prediction, the former English skipper went on to make another prediction saying that Australia would still win the series 3-1.
