It was a rough end to 2020 for Rishabh Pant. Following a dismal IPL, Pant was dropped from the white ball side for the Australia tour. But the young wicket-keeper made up for it with a stellar show in the Test series. Pant scored back to back hundreds as India breached Australia’s Gabba fortress after 32 long years. The Delhi batsman scored a brilliant 89 to see India over the line.

Pant was phenomenal in Sydney too as he scored a brilliant 97 to help India draw the game. Despite being hit in the elbow in the first innings, the explosive southpaw played a counterattacking knock at the SCG helping India to keep the series alive. Following his heroics Down Under, he attained a career-best 13th position to become the top-ranked wicketkeeper in the Test batting rankings.

Former India captain MS Dhoni is undoubtedly at the pinnacle when it comes to Indian wicket keepers. And it was inevitable that Pant will be compared with him after the brilliant show in the land Oz. Pant is humbled to be compared with someone of Dhoni’s stature but urges the fans to refrain from it. The young gloveman stresses that he wants to make his own name in the game. And adds that he is not worthy to be compared with a ‘legend.’

I am so happy that we retained the trophy. The whole team is very happy,” Pant told reporters after returning from the Australia tour.

It feels good when you are compared to someone like MS Dhoni but I do not want people to make comparisons. I want to make my own name in the Indian cricket team. That is the only thing I am focused on. Also, it is not good that you compare a legend with a youngster,” he further said.

Pant was highest run-getter for India in this Test series with 274 runs in 3 Tests averaging 68.5. And maintained his impeccable record in a fourth innings Down Under. As India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, BCCI also announced a cash bonus of Rs 5 crore.
