India vs Australia: “I like to stay in a positive mindset” – Steve Smith on dealing with boos and negativity
Steve Smith
Batting aces Virat Kohli and Steve Smith sat together for a chat ahead of the first Test match between India and Australia which is scheduled to begin tomorrow at the Adelaide Oval. Two of the finest batsmen in world cricket, the duo spoke about various topics like their best moments, the game of cricket, their rivalry and so on.
Steve Smith has been a very popular figure in cricket over the course of the last decade for both right reasons and wrong. His role in the ball-tampering scandal in 2018 was gravely criticized and led to him getting a ban. But the Aussie came roaring back to his best and let his bat do the talking to reestablish himself as a modern great. In his chat with Virat Kohli, Smith spoke about the scandal and the negativity he received during the period.
‘I just loved the noise’ – Steve Smith
Speaking about how he was booed on his return to international cricket, Steve Smith said, “I just loved the noise, regardless of what people are saying, even if it is negative towards me it’s just noise. Obviously, there was some negative stuff when I first came back but I like to prove people wrong and stay in a positive mindset. I just played and had fun.”
Smith also recalled how he changed his batting style during an Ashes series in 2013 which helped his game a great deal. “They (Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes) were bowling shorter stuff and I was struggling to get out of the way. So I thought I needed to get in a better position to play a pull shot. So I thought why don’t I go to middle and leg and just go a bit back and across the stumps and get myself in a good position and I started doing it and when they bowled short I was in a good position to hit it,” he said.
Smith and Kohli will be seen in action tomorrow in the first Test between India and Australia in Adelaide.
