India vs Australia: “I was scared of looking away for fear that one more Indian wicket might fall,” says Harsha Bhogle

After putting up a strong show on Day 2 of the first Test against Australia in Adelaide, the Indian team slumped to a shocking loss on the third day. The side lost wickets dramatically as they posted a dismal score of 36/9 on the board, their lowest in history. Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle reviewed the horror show of a Test match on Saturday.
Harsha Bhogle spoke with Adam Collins on Cricbuzz as he reviewed the pink ball Test. He was asked about what he thought about the carnage. “You know you are speaking to me from Adelaide and I am scared of looking away for fear that one more wicket might fall while I look away. That was how quickly they were going. Every time you look there was a wicket going down,” he answered.
India’s catastrophic loss came as a shock to everyone. “I mean you think you have seen it all. You have seen a bit of cricket, I have seen a bit of cricket over the years. You think you have seen it all, you never do, but you give yourself the feeling. But no, we haven’t seen anything about this great game yet,” Harsha Bhogle said.
Australian pacers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins were on a roll as they picked up 5 and 4 wickets respectively. “On another day, Josh Hazlewood would bowl exactly the same ball. Ajinkya Rahane would play it and miss 5 times. Cheteshwar Pujara would play and miss 6 times. And India would be at 100 for 3,” he said.
“But the funniest thing is, we started off saying 350 will be very good. 300 should be all right. And then said where is 300? Where are the binoculars? I am only seeing 80,” he added.
‘There’s two ways of looking at it’

The decimation of the Indian batting order in the pink ball Test was shocking. However, the poor batting score was also a result of the incredible performances by Australian fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.
Harsha Bhogle highlighted the same. “There’s two ways of looking at it. One is to say India batted badly, there is some truth in that. Other is to say ‘look how good were Australia’s bowlers’, They bowled lovely lengths. There’s a reason they were nicking it away because the ball wasn’t doing too much. It was doing just enough to nick,” he said.
India and Australia will next lock horns at the Boxing Day Test match in Melbourne starting on 26 December. India skipper, Virat Kohli will be returning home for his paternity leave. Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will take over captaincy.
