India vs Australia: India bowl out Australia for 195; finish Day 1 on 36/1

The second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground between India and Australia witnessed a fascinating first day’s play as India bowled out Australia for 195 before being reduced for . After the humiliating defeat in the first Test at the Adelaide Oval that saw them being bowled out for 36 in the second innings, India were desperate to bounce back and their reply was more than decent at the MCG.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first, naming an unchanged line-up. India on the other hand, had already announced their line-up yesterday. They handed debuts to Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj while also bringing in Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant.
Indian bowlers continue good form

The Aussies began their innings cautiously before India drew first blood through Jasprit Bumrah who removed Joe Burns for a duck. Marnus Labuschagne and Matthew Wade then offered some resistance before the latter perished to Ravichandran Ashwin. The Indian offie then removed Steve Smith for a duck having him play to leg-slip. He had also dismissed the latter for 1 in the first innings of the first Test.
India then kept chipping away with wickets as the likes of Travis Head, Tim Paine and Cameron Green got starts but perished. The Australian tail did not wag as much as they usually do but Nathan Lyon got a handy 20. Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for India with 4 wickets.
Starc removes Agarwal early but Gill and Pujara hold firm

After the wretched showing the last time they came out to bat, India once again, got off to a horror start in their reply as Mayank Agarwal was removed for a duck by Mitchell Starc. Agarwal’s high back-lift and late shot-making got exposed as the left-arm speedster had him trapped in front. Cheteshwar Pujara then joined debutant Shubman Gill and the duo were involved in a good partnership with the latter being the aggressor.
Gill looked calm and composed in his debut stay at the crease in an international. He showed no signs of discomfort as he stroked his way to an unbeaten 28 with five fours. India got to 36/1 at stumps. A crucial day awaits both teams as India will look to get the crucial lead.
