The Indian bowlers produced an impressive performance during the Boxing Day Test in the ongoing series against Australia. India bowled out their opposition for a low score of 195 inside 73 overs. Ace speedster Japrit Bumrah and debutant Mohammed Siraj shared six crucial wickets during the first innings.

Former Indian opening batsman Sunil Gavaskar looked in awe of the Indian fast bowlers after their performance during the first innings. He used words like ‘unbelievable’ and ‘mind-boggling’ while speaking about the Indian pace attack. Gavaskar also talked about the bench strength while mentioning speedster Navdeep Saini.

“The bench strength for fast bowling is unbelievable. It may not be the same as far as spinners are concerned. But when you look at the amount of talent available in the fast bowling department, it’s just mind-boggling,” Gavaskar told Seven Cricket.

“We’ve got Navdeep Saini who’s pretty quick, bowls around 145 regularly. He’s not playing (in Boxing Day Test) as he did not have good warm-up games, maybe that’s the reason why Siraj got the nod ahead of him. But he’s there, there’s Umesh Yadav, and there are lots of other young fast bowlers who are knocking on the doors,” Gavaskar added.

Gavaskar credited gym behind players’ strength

Indian team bundled out Australia for 195

On being asked to explain the reason behind Indian fast bowlers generating more pace nowadays compared to yesteryear, Gavaskar stated that the credit goes to the hard work they put in the gym.

“I think it’s all the gym work that they do. The upper body strength is good. They are now guided by professionals and that makes a big difference. Today’s generation is willing to work, and they pride themselves on their looks,” he added.
