India vs Australia: “It was refreshing to go out there and bowl,” says Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin sparked a remarkable comeback for India to put his side on top on Day 2 of the first Test between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Beginning the day on 233/6, India managed to add only 11 runs before they lost all four wickets to get to a below-par score of 244. In the second innings however, the visitors came roaring back.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the Australian openers cheaply before Ashwin removed the Australian middle-order with excellent bowling close to the body. The pick of the lot was that of Steve Smith who was dismissed for just one run. The offie then went on to remove Travis Head and Cameron Green. He returned for a late spell then to remove Nathan Lyon in the final session to put his side well and truly on top.
‘Felt I was making my debut all over again’ – Ashwin
After the end of the second day, Ashwin spoke in a virtual press-conference about getting back on the field and said, I am so happy that we are playing Test cricket again. It’s been a long time and I didn’t imagine that we will be playing Test cricket looking at what’s happening around. Me being extremely mad about the sport, did a lot of work during the lockdown. So it was refreshing to go out there and bowl, the feeling was great the pink-ball Test and all that new thing about the pink ball.”
Speaking about dismissing batting ace Steve Smith, Ashwin said, “Felt amazing to go out there and play. I felt I was making my debut all over again so I really enjoyed bowling. Obviously, Smith wicket was a big wicket. The way he bats, so it was an important wicket and I enjoyed it.”
India have a lead of 62 and will look to build on it to set a big target for the Aussies.
