India vs Australia: “It will be a tough call between Pant and Saha” – Hanuma Vihari speaks on India’s wicket-keeper spot
Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant
Indian batsman Hanuma Vihari spoke to the press today and gave his take on India’s selection issues calling them a ‘good headache’. With India’s Test set-up looking completely different to their limited-overs one and the considerable amount of time that has passed since India last played a Test match, a lot of talk has revolved around what playing XI India will go with against Australia.
The presence of a plethora of candidates for openers and the form of each has led to India needing to make a big decision ahead of the first Test. While the middle-order looks fairly settled, the wicket-keeper spot is a straight shootout between Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant. While Saha was considered the favorite for that spot, Pant made a case for the same with a blistering century in the warm-up game against Australia A.
‘Both Pant and Saha are in good form’ – Vihari
Hanuma Vihari who himself scored a century in the tour match spoke to the press in a virtual press confrerence today and talked about India’s selection issues. “Healthy competition is always good for the team and I feel, for every spot, we have good competition. It all depends on team management as to whom they decide to pick. I feel both of them are looking in good form so it will be a tough call and a good headache,” Vihari said.
Speaking about his own form and the fact that he was used as an extra bowling option, Vihari said, “I think I am bowling decently. Ajinkya asked me to bowl and I was happy to do it. I think I did pretty well and getting a wicket is a bonus.”
The tour match between India and Australia A ended in a draw. The first Test between India and Australia will begin on December 17 with a pink-ball day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval.
