India vs Australia : KL Rahul jokes on David Warner’s injury, slammed by fans for distasteful comment
David Warner limps off the field
Australia sealed the ODI series against India with a comprehensive 51 run win in the second encounter. But bad news followed as opener David Warner was ruled out of the white ball series following a groin strain. Warner set up the series win as he hammered scores of 69 and 83 in the first two ODIs. The explosive opener limped off the field during the fourth over of the second innings. And scans later revealed that he suffered a groin strain. Warner’s absence atop the order might be a big blow for the Aussie.
It would be good for the team
Talking about the incident, India vice-captain KL Rahul joked that the injury might be a blessing for the visitors. Rahul said in a light-hearted that if the injury takes long, it will be good for India. Following the injury, Warner’s availability for the Test series is in doubt.
“We don’t know how bad his injury is. It would be nicer if he gets injured for a long time. One of their main batsmen. It is not nice to wish it for anyone but it would be good for the team. If his injury takes a long time, it would be good for our team,” Rahul said in a virtual press conference.
His light-hearted comment was not appreciated by fans as they labelled the comment “despicable.” Rahul was slammed on social media as fans blew his comment out of proportion. Many even accused him of lacking the sportsman spirit.
Warner’s departure has left the Aussie top order vulnerable. It was the southpaw’s flamboyant hitting which gave skipper Aaron Finch the time he needed to build his innings. But with Warner missing, the Aussies might be in a fix. Meanwhile, Marnus Labuschagne has put his hand up to open the batting if the team requires him to.
