India vs Australia : “Miss IPL or you cannot miss Australian games” – Shane Warne slams Australia for resting Pat Cummins two games into the tour
Pat Cummins and Shane Warne
Australia have rested their frontline speedster Pat Cummins for the rest of the white ball series against India. Cricket Australia shares that Cummins, who is the number 1 Test bowler has been rested in light of the four-game Test series ahead. But former Australia spinner Shane Warne is not happy with the decision. Warne shares that he is disappointed.
The Aussie legend adds that it’s too early in the home season to rest. Warne admits that a long home summer awaits the hosts but insists that it’s still too early to rest players. Australia will be facing India in three T20s and four Tests following the ODI series. The Big Bash League (BBL) follows the Border Gavaskar series. And the Kangaroos face their trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand for five T20Is thereafter to finish off their home summer.
“Pat Cummins and the resting, I’m a little bit disappointed,” Warne said on Fox Cricket. “I know it is a big summer that we have and it is pretty jam-packed, but I don’t think Australian players should be resting after two games.“
“Why are they resting? Is it because they played IPL? So they are allowed to go and play all these games in the IPL and then they need a rest because they have been playing in IPL.“
Playing for Australia more important than IPL
Warne feels that players should choose their country over the Indian Premier League (IPL). The spin maestro slams Cummins for playing all the games in the IPL and resting in the middle of a hustling summer Down Under. Cummins was a key player for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and ended up playing all 14 of the games in the cash-rich league.
“Surely playing for Australia is more important than playing in the IPL. So I would say you should choose. Either miss the IPL or you cannot miss games because you need a break coming off an IPL for an Australian game.“
“It is a One Day International for Australia and you need a rest to get through the summer after two games,” Warne signed off.
Australia faired fairly well without Cummins in the final ODI in Canberra. Losing the toss, the Aussies restricted India to 302 but are now struggling in the chase.
