India were dealt yet another cruel blow on an already horrific day as star pace-bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the remaining three Tests against Australia after suffering a fracture to his arm during the first Test, according to India Today. On what was a horror day for India, the team was bundled out for 36 runs – their lowest score in Test match history eclipsing the 42 that they scored against England in 1974.

The Australians were relentless with their accurate lines and lengths and the Indian batters had no clue. Josh Hazlewood picked up 5 wickets while Pat Cummins picked up 4 more. The last man-in Shami was out retired hurt after a bouncer from Cummins struck him on his arm.

Huge blow to India’s hopes

Mohammed Shami was struck on his bowling arm by a Pat Cummins bouncer in the 22nd over when India were reeling at 36/9. After a lengthy discussion and examination by the physio, Shami was let to resume batting. However, the No. 11 batsman complained of discomfort yet again and India had to declare the innings with Shami considered retired hurt.

The loss of Shami will be a big blow to India who will already be without batting ace and captain Virat Kohli. In the former’s absence, the two other fast-bowlers in the squad – Navdeep Saini or Mohammed Siraj will be expected to step up and fill the large shoes of the injured Shami.
