India vs Australia: Mohammed Siraj pays tribute to his late father after arrival from Australia

Mohammed Siraj had a truly incredible summer in Australia as he withstood a plethora of demons including personal tragedy, immense pressure and racial abuse to come up with remarkable performances in India’s triumphant series. Siraj had lost his father while he was training in Australia for the series and decided to stay back Down Under for his nation despite not being guaranteed a place in the playing XI.
An injury to Mohammed Shami meant that he made his debut in the second Test and very soon, he was tasked with leading the attack in the fourth Test and injuries kept ravaging the Indian pacers. In the fourth and decisive final Test, Siraj walked home with a five-wicket-haul as well as the achievement of being India’s leading wicket-taker in the series with 13 scalps.
Siraj visits father’s grave after arrival

The victorious Indian team returned to India today and Siraj went directly to his father’s grave to pay his tributes to him. His father, Mohammed Ghouse had passed away on November 20 due to a lung ailment at the age of 53. An auto driver, Ghouse was Siraj’s ‘pillar of strength’ in the pacer’s own words.
Siraj spoke to reporters after visiting his father’s grave and according to Sports Today, said, “I didn’t go home, directly. I went to the graveyard straight from the airport, I went there to sit with my dad for some time. I couldn’t speak to him but offered flowers to his grave.”
“And then I came home. When I met my mom, she started crying. Then I tried to console her, telling her not to cry. It was a different feeling. After 6-7 months, her son had come home. Mom was always waiting for me to return. She was counting down how many days were left for me to return,” he signed off.
