Indian skipper Virat Kohli achieved the milestone of 12,000 runs in ODI cricket during the 3rd ODI against Australia at the Manuka Oval. He became the fastest to do so, eclipsing the great Sachin Tendulkar. His half-century helped India secure a morale-boosting consolation win over Australia in the series and also helped prevent what would have been a humiliating whitewash.

Virat Kohli was in sublime touch throughout 2020 which saw the pandemic cut short the cricketing schedule. However, his lack of centuries has been a source of worry for some fans as the 32-year-old failed to hit a century in a calendar year since 2008. But the fact that has to be considered is that India played just 9 ODIs due to the pandemic and further, Kohli did have a terrific average of 47.9.

Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman spoke about Virat Kohli on the Star Sports show, Cricket Connected. He said, “Virat Kohli is phenomenal. I think, the way he has played in each and every series, the kind of intensity he has maintained each and every day, when he’s on the cricket field is unbelievable, because at some stage I thought that will be the biggest challenge for Virat Kohli, at some stages he will burn out, but not even once we have seen that energy drop down when Virat is on the cricket field, whether he is batting or he is fielding,”

Laxman further commended Kohli’s ability to thrive under pressure and finish off run-chases. “Kohli is excellent when under pressure, because if you see his one day record how many Hundreds did he get while chasing and then you know that you’ve got a target to achieve, there’s always a scoreboard pressure on him, but he relishes pressure, he relishes responsibility and that’s what gets the best out of him,” the former batsman added.
