India vs Australia: Ravi Shastri provides update on Rohit Sharma’s inclusion in third Test
Ravi Shastri and Rohit Sharma
Indian limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma joined the Indian camp in Melbourne yesterday after a 14-day quarantine period in Sydney. The saga surrounding the ace batsman raged throughout the lead-up to the series with confusion regarding whether it was fitness issues or personal reasons that kept him out of the white-ball leg of the tour as well as the first two Tests.
Rohit had been training in the National Cricket Academy in Mumbai when the white-ball leg of the tour was being played before being cleared to travel to Australia and join the Indian camp after a quarantine period in Sydney. With the Test series now level at 1-1, Rohit Sharma is likely to be picked for the third and fourth Tests and the 33-year-old will look to make an immediate impact to seal a famous second consecutive series win in Australia.
‘We will have to see how he feels’ – Ravi Shastri
Ravi Shastri spoke to the press in a virtual conference after the second Test and when asked about Rohit Sharma’s availability for the third Test, he said, “Rohit joins the team tomorrow. We will have a chat with him to see where he is placed physically because he has been quarantined for a couple of weeks. We will have to see now how he feels before we take the call.”
In the video posted by BCCI where Rohit joins the camp and is welcomed by his teammates, Shastri can be seen asking Sharma, “How was quarantine my friend? You look young.” It remains to be seen who Rohit Sharma would replace in the playing XI if the management decides to pick for the third Test. As of now, the likely candidates seem to be Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari, both of whom haven’t fired in the series so far.
