India vs Australia: Rohit Sharma sweats it out at first net session ahead of Sydney Test
Indian batting ace Rohit Sharma joined the Indian camp on Wednesday after a mandatory quarantine period in Sydney. In two days’ time, he was also announced as the vice-captain for the remaining two Test matches against Australia which all but assures him of a place in the playing XI after missing the entirety of the white-ball leg of the tour as well as the first two Tests due to fitness issues and/or personal reasons.
It remains to be seen as to who Rohit will replace in the playing XI for the next two Tests. The two candidates to make way are Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari. If the former makes way, Rohit would slot straight into the opener’s position but if the latter is removed from the playing XI, either Rohit himself or Shubman Gill will have to move to the No. 5 slot in the batting order.
‘The wait is over’ – Rohit Sharma sweats it out
After joining the team, Rohit Sharma has jumped straight into action as was evident today as he took part in his first net session in over a month and a half. The 33-year-old faced fast deliveries at the net and looked comfortable in defending and pushing deliveries elegantly.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) official handle took to Twitter to post a video of the same and captioned it, “The wait is over! The Hitman show is about to unfold.” The third Test between India and Australia begins on January 7 at the Sydney Cricket Ground with the series square at 1-1.
