India clinched their fifth straight T20 series win as they bounced back to seal the T20 series against Australia. The visitors crushed the injury-marred Aussies by six wickets in the second encounter to clinch the three-game T20 series. Put to bat first, the hosts were off to a great start as stand-in skipper Matthew Wade smashed a 25 ball fifty. Riding on the great start the Kangaroos set a daunting total of 194 for Virat Kohli and Co. and the Men in Blue stood up to the task.
Inform openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul gave India a solid start as the former went on to smash his second half-century of the tour. Kohli played a brisk innings in the middle overs before Hardik Pandya‘s late flourish saw the side over the line in the last over thriller. Pandya bagged the man of the match award. But it was T Natarajan who hogged the limelight for his figures of 2 for 20. The left-arm quick registered the figures in only his second T20I while the other bowlers were taken to the cleaners.
Indian T20 team is on this great roll
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan is mighty impressed with India’s series victory. Vaughan hails the victory a big win as it comes in absence of India’s premier white-ball players Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma. The Indian team is currently on a 10 match winning streak in the format and Vaughan is astonished the way India has been able to pull games from dire situations so often.
The Englishman had earlier predicted that India will not be able to win a single series during the tour Down Under following their disastrous performance in the ODI series.
“When you chase down a total like that and you look at your dressing room. You are giving younger players the opportunity and you are also seeing that Bumrah is not there, Shami is not playing this evening, there is no Rohit Sharma. That’s a big win and its a big win because you want to continue with the momentum,” Vaughan said on Cricbuzz Live.
“The T20 team for India this year has been outstanding. They are winning every game and they are winning from positions necessarily in the 50 over format, they wouldn’t have won from. I can’t put my head around the reason why that is the case.“
Vaughan feels that the streak of wins has given the dressing room a big boost in confidence. And that is a probable reason why they have been able to pull off close victories so often. Even the last two games against Australia, the visitors bounced back brilliantly to win the games. And the former England batter went on to reiterate the importance of confidence and self-belief in the series win.
“But you just go on a roll in teams and the Indian T20 team, at the minute, is on this great roll. They can win from any position, if they are fielding first, batting first, they have got everything pretty much covered. In that mindset, its a great dressing room to be in when you know you are winning games you could possibly have lost.“
“And the last two games is kinda proof of that. They are not far away from loosing but also managing to win them. And it is because of that belief and confidence they have in the team at the minute,” the former England skipper signs off.
