India vs Australia: ‘The resolve, fortitude and reserves of spirit of these players has been inspiring’ – Sunil Gavaskar pays tribute to India’s gutsy effort

What a fitting end to the stellar Test series we have had so far. All depends on the final hour of the final session as both the sides fight it out for the prestigious Border Gavaskar Trophy. While both the sides have been able to match each other punch by punch, the highlight of the series has been India’s resilience. Let it be the memorable win at the MCG or the drawn game in Sydney or the ongoing Test. The tourists have always managed to bounce back.
Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar hails the effort as one of the memorable ones of the cricket-loving nation. 7Cricket put up Gavaskar’s special video on Team India, where the great batsman paid tribute to India’s resolute stand Down Under. The fact that India has put up such a stellar show without many of their key players makes it even more special.
“What we’ve witnessed in this series is something extraordinary. The resolve, fortitude and reserves of spirit displayed by these players has been inspiring.“
“A tribute to India, from Sunil Gavaskar,” the caption read.
The final Test hangs in the balance

As I write, the final Test in Gabba is nearing a thrilling finish. Although India have lost Cheteshwar Pujara, his gritty effort and gutsy Rishabh Pant‘s presence means India still have a chance at winning the Test match. As of now, India 74 more runs with 15 overs in hand. And the way Pant has been holding himself up in the middle, we are in a for a great finish to the Test series.
While Pant, who has brought up his second half-century of the series, holds key to India winning the game, the tourists also have the resources to draw the game and retain the trophy. Even a draw at the Gabba would mean a lot of India, who bounced back from the Adelaide humiliation to coming this close to winning the Test series. Meanwhile, Australia’s picture-perfect record at the Gabba of the last 32 years is on the line with the series as we await the result of this enthralling contest.
