Going into the Test series Down Under, India seemed well prepared for their adversaries. And following their MCG heroics, it looked like we are in for a breathtaking final two Test matches. But an unprecedented number of injuries have left the tourists reeling. The situation is such that the Indians were left struggling to put together a balanced XI for the final game.

Former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist feels that the team management should look into the reasons leading to it. While some injuries have been afflicted by the fiery Aussie bowling, all others have been muscle related. And improper workload management is believed to be the reason behind it.

It’s just been extraordinary the adversity they have faced on this tour. They’ll need to work out why there have been so many injuries,” Gilchrist told Fox Sports. “A few have been inflicted by the Australian pace attack, but the soft tissue injuries they’ll need to assess why they came about and whether it was something in or out of their control.

India’s steely determination and resilience

Despite the injury woes, India has refused to give an inch to the opponents. A proper example of it was the SCG Test, which saw severely bruised and battered hosts hold the fort to draw the game. India batted a record 131 overs against Australia’s world-class bowling attack to draw the game. Gilchrist was quick to recognise the tourists guts and determination to win.

But you can’t question their resilience and their willingness to stay in the fight and not lie down,” the 49-year-old added.

In the ongoing fourth Test in Brisbane, the Ajinkya Rahane led side fielded a side with an inexperienced bowling unit. The bowling unit had a combined experience of four Tests but did a fairly good job in the first innings at Gabba. The tourists bowled Australia out for 369 following Marnus Labuschagne’s ton. Debutants Washington Sundar and T Natarajan impressed with three wickets each while Shardul Thakur also bagged three wickets.
