With all the talk surrounding the upcoming Test series between India and Australia revolving around the two teams’ pace attacks, the equally important spin attack shouldn’t be ignored as well. The form of the spinners who will be expected to bowl long spells and break partnerships will be key in deciding the outcome of the series. India’s spin department will be led by R Ashwin while it will be Nathan Lyon for the Aussies.

The latter has been one of the more consistent performers for the Australian side over the course of the previous decade and is just 10 wickets short of reaching the 400-wicket mark and becoming the sixth spinner in cricket history to reach the same. Lyon has a history of troubling the Indian batters in the past and the Aussies will want more of the same once the Test series gets underway on the 17th of December.

‘I love the challenge of playing against India’ – Nathan Lyon

Speaking to Cricbuzz ahead of the Test series, Nathan Lyon was upbeat about performing well in the series. “We obviously know what happened in the last series against India and how well they played. We have spoken about that and come up with few different plans. I can’t reveal my plans for Indians to read about but there is a great vibe in this Australian team and we are in far better place than we were two years ago. It’s exciting and the tightest Aussie team that I have been a part of. We have done a bit of homework and ready to go,” he said.

Speaking about approaching the 400-wicket mark, “From where I had started to where I am at present, it is pretty exciting. Hopefully, I can create chances and get close to 400 wicket mark. In the last five years, my bowling has gone to an altogether new level. I love the challenge of playing an attacking side like India,” Lyon said.

While speaking about his plans for the Indian batters, Lyon spoke of exploiting the rough footmarks created by left-arm quick Mitchell Starc. Obviously, I will try to get edges on both sides, catches around the bat. I love footmarks created by Starc. He is pretty pumped up and not only a quality player but also a quality bloke,” he said.

Nathan Lyon will take the field along with his Australian teammates on the 17th of December for the first Test at the Adelaide Oval.
