India vs Australia: Tim Paine keeps playing XI “in-house at the moment” but confirms Cameron Green’s debut in Adelaide
Tim Paine
Australia Test captain Tim Paine confirmed that the hosts have locked down the playing XI for the first Test. But is not ready to reveal until the toss tomorrow. The first series will be a day-night affair in Adelaide. The biggest question for the Aussies will be there opening combination. With southpaws David Warner and Will Pucovski ruled out, incumbent opener Joe Burns is likely to get another shot at cementing his place in the side
“We will be keeping that in-house at the moment,” Paine said in a virtual press conference.
Cam Green will make his test debut tomorrow
While Paine refrained from divulging their opening combination, he confirmed all-rounder Cameron Green‘s Test debut tomorrow. The Test captain shared that Green has recovered well from the concussion and will feature in the pink-ball Test. The young all-rounder scored a ton and scalped a couple of wickets in the first warm-up game. But was hit on the head off a straight drive from Jasprit Bumrah. The concussion jeopardised his Test debut in Adelaide but Green has recovered well to bag his maiden baggy green cap tomorrow.
“He is pretty good to go,” Paine said. “He obviously trained with us yesterday, reports are he has pulled up really well this morning. All things going well, Cam Green will make his test debut tomorrow.”
On the other hand, Aussie coach Justin Langer hasn’t ruled out struggling Burns out of the equation yet. The Queenslander has been struggling lately 62 runs from nine first-class innings. Yet Langer backed him as he asserts that Burns has the talent to excel in all whites.
“I’ve been talking to Joe . . . I’ve been privately and publicly backing Joe in the whole time,” Langer said. “He’s a very good player. You don’t lose your talent overnight. He also understands that runs are the greatest currency for any player.”
Indian skipper Virat Kohli confirmed the visitor’s side for the pink-ball Test. Prithvi Shaw has been retained as the opener as Umesh Yadav fills in for Ishant Sharma as the third pacer.
