India vs Australia: ‘We got some scars as well, just have to prepare well and carry on the momentum’ – Joe Burns ahead of ‘crucial’ Boxing Day Test
Joe Burns
While India put up a horror show with the bat at Adelaide, Australia had their moments of reckoning in the encounter. Australia opener Joe Burns shares that although they go into the Boxing Day Test as favourites, there is still room for improvement. Burns asserts that the second encounter at the MCG will be a crucial one in deciding the fate of the series. The eight-wicket victory in the pink ball Test has boosted the hosts’ morale. And the Aussie opener feels that it is all about preparations and riding the momentum as they gear up for the second Test.
“We have got some scars as well, we just have to prepare well, start well and carry on the momentum from the last game,” Burns said during a virtual press conference on Monday.
“We know that Indians are going to bounce back in the next Test, which is going to play a crucial role in (deciding the) fate of the series.”
Indian team does have very good depth
India captain Virat Kohli returned home for the birth of his first child following the series opener. And Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the series with a fracture in his arm. Burns feels that it will be a big loss for India losing their premier players with the series on the line. But feels that the visitors have the depth to make up the void. The 31 year old admits that these are big shoes to fill yet expects a challenge for the reeling visitors at the MCG.
“I think Shami and Virat are obviously big losses for India. In saying that the Indian team does have very good depth as well. So, they are still going to be very challenging,” Burns said.
“It is always hard to replace world class players like that, but when we look (at the guys) that they got to come in, we are going to prepare well for the next game. We know that Indians are going to bounce back strongly,” the opener added.
Burns snapped out of a long streak of low scores as he struck a fifty in Adelaide. The Queenslander also hit the winning runs in the pink-ball Test and is rearing to go in next encounter at the MCG.
