There is a buzz in the atmosphere every time the modern-day stalwarts, India and Australia, clash. But when it comes to Test cricket, the clash of the titans becomes even more ferocious. India scripted history on their last visit Down Under as they clinched their first-ever Test series on Australian soil. And the Kangaroos are eager to set the record straight against Virat Kohli‘s men this time around.

The hosts come into the series with all bases covered. The return of David Warner and Steve Smith has bolstered their batting line up. While their lethal pace battery has evolved by leaps and bounds since India’s last visit. Adding to the hosts’ morale, captain Kohli will be leaving for home following the series opener. And this provides them with the perfect chance to recapture the prestigious Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Aussie speedster Pat Cummins hopes that the return of Warner and Smith will inspire confidence in the side. But is quick to point out that they are a better side now. Cummins hails the rise of Marnus Labuschagne as a force to reckon in red-ball cricket. And adds that the likes of Travis Head and others have come a long way since the last series. The lanky quick shares that pace battery has learnt a lot during the Tests that followed. And hence is looking forward to a great series.

I hope so. Someone like Marnus Labuschagne, he might have played one or two tests last time but he’s now turned into one of the best batters in the world. Travis Head was only starting out on his journey, same with a couple of others. Even us bowlers, I feel, like another 15 tests down the track we’ve all learned a little bit about ourselves, so it’s going to be a really good series. India have a really similar side to last time, we’ve got a couple of guys coming in, it is going to be good fun,” Cummins said on KKR TV.

Speaking of his Indian counterparts, Cummins is hailed the Indians for their bowling effort during the 2018-19 tour. And he expects nothing less for the Indian quicks although Ishant Sharma will be missing out. The 27-year-old adds that it will take some “hard work” from the Aussie batters to face the visitors. But is confident that the hosts will prevail this time around.

Last time Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma bowled really well together, really disciplined. And asking questions about batters each time they bowled. Obviously, Ishant might not be on the tour but you know the other two they can bowl around the 140 kilometer mark, quite skillful. So it’s going to be hard work. Our batters have shown in the last few years they can bat long periods of time when they get the chance in Australia so hopefully this time will be the same.
