Ravichandran Ashwin has been in terrific touch as of late. After a successful Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign, the off-spinner had a terrific tour of Australia as he troubled the Aussies with his excellent variations. He has now carried his form well into the home series against England as well. On conditions suiting him, he has gone about picking up wickets at will. Further, he has got back to form with the bat as well, scoring a century in the second test at his home ground.

Ashwin hasn’t played a limited overs match since 2017 when he played in the ICC Champions Trophy final against Pakistan that India lost. Following the loss, India opted for a different approach in white-ball cricket as they went for two wrist-spinners over the finger-spinning options. Even Ravindra Jadeja lost his place in the side for a while before regaining it thanks to his displays with the bat.

Brad Hogg wants Ravi Ashwin back

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg organized a Q&A session on his Twitter handle where he answered questions from his followers. One such follower asked him about his opinion on Ashwin and the prospect of him making a comeback as an all-rounder in the Indian limited-overs sides.

Hogg replied saying, “I think it is a great option, gives the batting line up extra depth allowing the top order to be more aggressive at the top and he is an wicket taking option with the ball, as well as economical. Get him back in.

In fact, Ashwin had been asked a similar question by reporters after his all-round performance in the second test and he had answered, “For me it’s (comeback to the limited-overs squads) very realistic not a dream. The space I am in right now, I’m enjoying whatever I’m doing on a day-to-day basis. It’s been more about the process, it’s more about what, how and when rather than this that and there. That’s something which can make you chase and make you desperate.”
