India vs England 2021: Fans and cricketers who called Chepauk pitch ‘unplayable’ get mocked after Ravichandran Ashwin’s hundred
There was plenty of debate surrounding the pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after the conclusion of yesterday’s play with many calling the pitch ‘unplayable’ for batsmen. The likes of Michael Vaughan and Mark Waugh had all tweeted about it with plenty of experts and fans saying that the pitch took away the balance between bat and ball by making life extremely difficult for the batters.
However, Ravichandran Ashwin put on an exhibition of exemplary batting on day 3 to show that even on such a ‘rank-turner’, with proper application and grit, run-scoring was possible. In fact, India managed to score 615 runs which is by no means an indication of a pitch that is ‘unplayable’. Ashwin’s knock thereby, firmly hit home the fact that the pitch was not as difficult as some were making it out to be.
Soon after his knock which was well-supported by useful contributions from Virat Kohli and No. 11 batsman, Mohammed Siraj, fans and cricketers have taken to Twitter to mock former cricketers as well as other fans who deemed the pitch to be near-impossible to bat on. Here are a few such reactions.
