Ben Stokes revealed as to how hard the English players found the hot conditions in India to be during the recently concluded test series. England had begun the series extremely well by completely dominating the first test in Chennai and drawing first blood. However, in the subsequent three tests that favored the spinners, the English batters had no clue and surrendered to India’s spin attack.
Ben Stokes was one of the bright spots along with Joe Root and the bowlers who performed their heart out even in such challenging conditions. Stokes was especially excellent in the final test where he contributed with the bat as well as the ball. Following the conclusion of the series, the all-rounder has revealed as to how the English players suffered from an illness that caused weight loss.

Ben Stokes spoke to Mirror about the series against India and discussed the difficult conditions. “Players are totally committed to England and I think that was emphasized last week when a few of us went down with an illness that made operating in 41-degree heat particularly taxing. I lost 5kg in a week, Dom Sibley 4kg and Jimmy Anderson 3kg among others. Jack Leach was ducking off the field in between bowling spells and spending more time than is ideal in the toilet,” he said.
“This is in no way an excuse because everyone was ready to play, and India and Rishabh Pant especially produced a terrific performance, but I take off my hat to the effort that was put in by players who gave everything they had to try and win for England,” he added.
Ben Stokes’ focus will now shift to the five-match T20I series which will begin on the 12th of March.
