India vs England 2021: IN PICTURES – India clinch ODI series as Sam Curran’s knock goes in vain

England’s tour of India concluded with a thriller between the two stalwarts. The series decider turned out to be a nail bitter as India survived a stunning knock from Sam Curran who ended on 95*. India seemed to be going well and what seemed like mere formality to polish off the tail proved to be an arduous task as the young Curran took the bowlers on and refused to succumb without a fight.
However, India survived in the end and took the ODI series 2-1. Having clinched the Test series 3-1 and the T20I series 3-2, it was a sweep for the hosts. However, England were terrific competitors and in no way were all the series wins, easy ones as India were made to fight hard.

Losing the toss yet again in the series, the hosts were invited to bat first.

Indian openers gave the hosts a perfect start as they stitched together a 103 run stand before Rohit Sharma succumbed.

Shikhar Dhawan struck his second fifty of the series as he gave India a perfect platform to accelerate.

India were then pegged back by some quick wickets from the Englishmen as they found themselves four wickets down with Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya at the crease.

The duo took apart the English attack as India rushed to 250 under 35 overs. But the hosts failed to keep up the momentum as they lost wickets in quick succession towards the end. A handy 30 run cameo from Shardul Thakur saw the hosts past 300 as they were skittled out for just 329.

In the second innings, Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck twice to leave England struggling as they lost their in-form openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow.

Dawid Malan struck a fifty for England to keep their hopes alive.

But Shardul Thakur picked up 4 wickets to ensure India were near the finish line with only Sam Curran‘s wicket to get.

Sam Curran then played a blinder to take England close to victory with just 23 runs required off 3 overs.

Two good overs from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya followed, leaving England needing 14 off the last over bowled by T Natarajan. The left armer held his nerve to concede just 6 runs to take India to victory.
