India thumped England by 36runs in the decider to take the five match T20I series. The hosts came back from the back twice in the series before lifting the trophy in emphatic fashion. India outplayed the visitors in all department as they looked for a much needed win ahead of the T20 World Cup at home.
Invited to bat first, the hosts got off to a rollicking start. Vice-captain Rohit Sharma went all out on the opposition from the get go giving India a platform to accelerate later. His whirlwind knock meant the likes Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya got a perfect launching pad to unleash their potential.
Captain Virat Kohli joined the party later as he finished unbeaten on 80. A great performance from the top-order saw the hosts post a mammoth target of 225 for England.
In reply, the duo of Jos Butler and Dawid Malan put up a century stand as they kept England in the chase. But following the end of their stand, the visitors’ batting order crumbled. England fell 36 runs short of the target handing the hosts a comfortable victory.

For the first time international cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma opened the innings together. The captain and his deputy were up to the task as they stitched an opening partnership of 94 to set the stage.
Rohit brought up his first fifty of the series as India raced off to a glorious start in the series finale. Following a great start, Rohit succumbed for 64 off just 34 balls.
Following Rohit’s departure, Suryakumar Yadav took to the field and he picked from where his Mumbai Indians captain left. Yadav played a sensational innings as he smashed 32 off just 17 balls including three fours and two sixes.
It took a special effort from England all-rounder Chris Jordan to stop Suryakumar’s destructive innings. On the boundary line, Jordan and Jason Roy pulled off an incredible relay catch to send him packing.
The final game saw captain Kohli smash his third fifty of the series. The Indian captain was phenomenal in his first T20I innings as an opener. Kohli dug deep for his unbeaten 80 as he provided the hosts a great finish.
Kohli and Hardik Pandya joined forces to give India a brilliant finish. The duo stitched a 81 run partnership as they took the English attack apart.
Pandya was back at his usual best as he played a great cameo with the bat. The lanky all-rounder smashed 39 off just 17 balls as the hosts rushed off to a huge first innings total.
The duo of Dawid Malan and Jos Butler rose to the occasion as England got off to a rocky start in the big chase. They stitched a mammoth 130-run stand but failed to see their side over the line in the decider.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar capped off a perfect debut with a scintillating display of bowling in the final game. The veteran quick was the one who broke the century stand between Butler and Malan which proved to be the game changer. Bhuvneshwar finished with figures of 2 for 15 in his quota of four overs.
