India vs England 2021: India likely to go with Umesh Yadav for third test after pacer clears fitness test
The third test between India and England is set to begin on the 24th of February and all the focus is on the pitch at the new Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. There was a lot of talk surrounding the pitch in the last test in Chennai with experts like Michael Vaughan labeling the pitch as ‘unplayable’ and a ‘shocker’. However the Indians led by Rohit Sharma retorted saying that was what home advantage is.
Now, all eye is on the third test with the pitch currently looking grassy. Further, the fact that it is a day/night test might influence India’s selection policy. They went with three spinners in Chepauk but now with the addition of Umesh Yadav to the squad after his recovery from an injury he suffered during the tour of Australia and a subsequent clearance of a fitness test, it looks like he would slot straight in as the third pacer and India would go with just 2 spinners.
Umesh Yadav clears fitness test
According to sources from Cricbuzz, Umesh Yadav is expected to slot right in to the playing XI for the third test. He is said to have cleared the fitness test as per the new guidelines for Indian players. It is unclear as to which of the two tests – Yo-Yo or the two km run Umesh cleared but he is now back with the squad, having replaced Shardul Thakur who will return to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
“We are exploring different scenarios about the Test and the main concern is neither twilight nor the pink ball. It is the dew factor that is a worry and we are thinking how to handle the situation. There is a lot of dew in the evenings and we want to make sure it does not become a major disadvantage,” the source reportedly said.
