Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly set to miss the remainder of England’s tour of India. The fast bowler excused himself from the test squad for the upcoming fourth test due to ‘personal reasons’ recently. He was also not named in the squad for the 5 T20Is in Ahmedabad which will follow the tests. Now, it is understood that he won’t play a part in the 3 ODIs in Pune that conclude the tour as well.
Bumrah has been a key part of India’s limited-overs success in recent times but in order to keep him fresh and help him stay away from a hectic workload and hence injuries, the Indian management has resorted to resting him even in crucial series. Bumrah was not a part of the T20I squad in the tour of Australia as well. Further, in the Tests that he has played against England, he has had to take a backseat due to conditions suiting the spinners more.
Jasprit Bumrah’s return to ‘take longer than expected’
According to Cricbuzz, Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the Indian team is set to take longer than anticipated. The reports have further stated that his absence will in turn open up opportunities for the management to try out new and younger players. The squad for the T20Is have already been announced and there weren’t much surprises in the bowling department. It remains to be seen what the ODI squad offers.
Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy who was selected in the T20I squad for the series has now reportedly failed a fitness test conducted at the National Cricket Academy. It is now expected that another test will be conducted and if he clears it, he would be drafted into the squad. If not, he will have to wait for some more time in order to make his debut.
