India vs England 2021: Joe Root set to miss ODI series against India due to England’s rotation policy
England are likely to play the 3-match ODI series against India without their batting ace Joe Root. The two sides will play each other in 3 ODIs in Pune after the ongoing Test series ends. The test series is locked at 1-1 with two more matches in Ahmedabad to play. After that, a 5-match T20 series in Ahmedabad will take place before the 3 ODIs in Pune will conclude the tour.
The Test series will take place till March 8 while the the T20I series will take place from March 12 to March 20 with matches on alternate days. The ODI series will then take place over 6 days from March 23 to 28 before the Englishmen leave for the UK. Further, to make their travel to UK easier, reports from Sportstar have stated that the third ODI could be shifted to Mumbai from Pune.
Joe Root to miss series – Reports
England’s Test captain Joe Root has been in scintillating form at the moment. He had a dream tour of Sri Lanka which was followed by his Man of the Match performance in the first test in Chennai against India. Though he didn’t come good in the second test, he will be backing himself to recover and lead his side to a famous series win in India.
Meanwhile, according to reports from the Daily Mail, Joe Root will be rested for both the T20I as well as the ODI series due to England’s rotation policy. Alongside him, Chris Woakes will be rested as well. The report stated that England are ‘committed to providing rest periods for multi-format players on an ongoing basis as part of preparation plans for the busy year.’
Recently as well, the likes of Jonny Bairstow, James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been rested in crucial matches as part of the policy. It thus seems absolutely plausible that Joe Root will miss out on the limited overs series.
