India vs England 2021: “They can win in all conditions” – Matthew Hayden all praise for ‘modern India’

The Indian test team under Virat Kohli has slowly and surely become one of the most difficult teams to beat. The team has been on a high since cricket restarted after the COVID-19 pandemic. They first won a series against all odds in Australia despite suffering from a plethora of injuries and the absence of their skipper. The 2-1 win with an inexperienced team had them in good stead for the home series against England.
However, the series got off to a bad start for the hosts as they lost the first test. However, they bounced back in some style by thrashing England in the next two tests as the spinners made merry on conditions that suited them. India now find themselves 2-1 up in the series with just 1 match to go. All they need to do is avoid defeat to seal the series and secure progress to the final of the World Test Championship (WTC).
Matthew Hayden speaks on the second test and India’s dominance

Former Australian cricket icon Matthew Hayden spoke to PTI about India’s recent performances and dominance and said, “India have shown that they are a modern team who can not only fight it out but win against the odds in all conditions. This is a mark of all the great teams in history. The ability to win both at home and away.”
“Teams, both home and away, tour with several options at their disposal should conditions suit different specialists. That’s the modern game, different formats, different conditions and huge resources to account for the same,” he added.
Hayden then had a piece of advice on how to play in turning wickets. He said, “Typically, the Ahmedabad wicket is not a big turning one. I would only play the sweep shot on slow turners where it is impossible to generate enough power to play shots down the ground. English batsmen should be conscious and play spin according to the conditions. Cross-bat shots are dangerous if the ball is not turning, bringing in several modes of dismissal at the one time, LBW, bowled in particular.” and signed off.
