Following a dominant win in the second T20I, India decided to experiment with their batting lineup. With Rohit Sharma returning to the side, the hosts decided to open the batting with Rohit and KL Rahul. Unfortunately, the move backfired as both the openers failed to get going. Ishan Kishan, who was demoted to number three, too failed even after hitting a fifty in the previous game on debut.

With the move failing majestically, the hosts have been criticised for chopping and changing a winning combination. Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels that India did the very same mistake that England did in the Test series by changing the combinations numerous times. Vaughan feels that the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja will strengthen the Indian side.

You’re up against the best team in the world and it very much reminded me of England in the Test series. Chopped and changed everything, and they are not that great a Test match team. This Indian T20 team is not that good,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

It’s as good as it should be so when you get things that work, keep it. Keep it till the next game. I do think Bumrah, Ravi Jadeja… put those two into this team and they just make it so good. You get an extra bowling option and a left-hand batting power with Jadeja and a world-class performer in Jasprit Bumrah.

“You maneuver a KL Rahul in the middle of the order,” Michael Vaughan

After a great couple of years with the bat, Rahul has hit a lean patch in the T20I series against England. The Karnataka opener has registered two ducks in the three games so far. While calls of dropping Rahul have been rampant on social media, Vaughan has an interesting solution.

The Englishman proposed to play Rahul in the middle order instead of demoting Ishan and Virat Kohli down the order. Given Rahul’s past heroics, the hosts seem adamant about giving him more chances in the series.

India, I didn’t quite understand with the bat in hand how they changed two players who had done so well in the last game. Ishan Kishan, who had opened the batting goes to three and Virat Kohli who played brilliantly at three goes to four. Surely, you keep the substance of what had worked in the previous game, you maneuver a KL Rahul in the middle of the order,” the former England captain said.

The fourth T20I of the series will be played on Thursday at Ahemadabad. The hosts will be eager to win the game and set up a decider for the final game of the series.
