India vs England 2021: Twitter reacts as India level Test series with a comprehensive victory

India thumped England by 317 runs on a rank turner in Chennai to level the series going into the pink Test.

After a crushing defeat in the series opener, India bounced back to level the series on a rank turner in Chennai. The hosts beat England by 317 runs to keep their World Test Championship final hopes alive. India were clearly the better side and outplayed the visitors in all departments to seal a comprehensive victory. This win will be a big morale booster for the hosts going into the third Test which will be a day-night affair.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the hero of the game for India on his home ground. Ashwin scalped five wickets in the second innings of the match before following it up with a century on day three. To top off an incredible performance, the veteran offspinner scalped three wickets. Among others, skipper Virat Kohli scored a gritty half-century while Axar Patel took a five-wicket haul on debut.

Following the big win, wishes poured in on Twitter congratulating the hosts. The win is a historic one as it is India’s biggest win against England in terms of runs. Many former players heaped praises on the talented Indian side for the comprehensive victory.

The comprehensive win saw India jump to the second place in the WTC points table. Two more wins mean the hosts will be sitting on flight to London in June or July this year.

Ashwin ended the game with eight wickets to his name for the game and a century. He narrowly missed a chance to join an elite club of players by taking 10 wickets and scoring a century in a single Test match.

With this win, India keep their World Test Championship final hopes alive. To book a seat in the final at Lords, the hosts will have to win both the remaining matches in Ahemadabad.
