Virat Kohli is on the brink of breaking MS Dhoni‘s record and becoming India’s most successful test captain at home if he wins the third test against England in Ahmedabad. The test series is evenly poised at the moment after the two tests in Chennai ended with ease side winning one apiece. The visitors drew first blood thanks to Joe Root‘s incredible double-hundred in the first innings.

But, India bounced back in style in the second test as the crowd and a turning track buoyed them on to a huge 317-run victory. The hero of the test was local boy Ravichandran Ashwin who got a hundred and also picked up 8 wickets. Rohit Sharma got a hundred as well in the first innings as India beat England comprehensively amidst allegations of the pitch being ‘unplayable’ and ‘shocking’.

India’s win at Chepauk in the second test was Virat Kohli’s 21st win as captain of the Indian side at home. It is noteworthy that Kohli equaled MS Dhoni with the win as the former Indian captain too had 21 wins in his career as captain. If Kohli wins in the 3rd test against England in Ahmedabad, he will surpass Dhoni and become the Indian captain with the highest wins at home in test history.

Following MS Dhoni are Mohammed Azharuddin who had 13, Sourav Ganguly with 10 and Sunil Gavaskar with 7. Kohli is also 12 runs away from getting to the 1000 run mark against England in home tests. He will become the third to do so after Gavaskar and Gundappa Viswanath if he does so.
