India were defeated with ease by England on Day 5 of the first Test played in Chennai. The hosts’ batsmen with the exception of skipper Virat Kohli folded without offering much resistance. Kohli was in his element however, on a very difficult day 5 pitch. He looked to be in sublime control of his shots even as the pitch produced reverse-swing, purchase for the spinners along with uneven bounce.

His stay was brought to an end by Ben Stokes who dismissed him with a ball that kept alarmingly low and snuck through before the batter could bring down his willow. Kohli looked at the pitch in disbelief and walked away as he knew it was the uneven bounce in the pitch that led to the dismissal and nothing else.

After getting Kohli out, Ben Stokes was seen animatedly raising both his fingers and shaking them rapidly in celebration. It is noteworthy that the duo hasn’t always been in the best of terms. Stokes has often called out Kohli for some of the statements made by the Indian captain. The celebration thus, seemed like a reignition of the rivalry.

India and Kohli now have a huge task at hand if they are to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship. They’ll have to win at least two more matches and hope England don’t win another. The next Test begins on February 13 in the same venue while the final two Tests are in Ahmedabad.
