India celebrate a wicket on Day 2

Day 2 of the first Test between India and England in Chennai saw the visitors piling on the runs to finish on 555/8. Joe Root, resuming from his century on Day 1 made his way to a well-deserved double hundred and in the process, became the first cricketer playing in his 100th Test to do so. Useful contributions from Ben Stokes and the rest of the batters also proved to be handy as England reached a position of great strength.

India were guilty of poor fielding once again as they dropped three catches. The first was Ravichandran Ashwin who dropped Stokes of his own bowling before Cheteshwar Pujara dropped a difficult chance. The easiest catch of the lot was Rohit Sharma‘s drop of Dom Bess which was an absolute sitter. After Rohit dropped it, the bowler Washington Sundar and the English dressing room were in disbelief.

In the first ball of the 174th over of England’s innings bowled by Washington Sundar, Dom Bess came down the track and pushed a delivery that got an inside edge and went straight to Rohit Sharma at mid-wicket. However, the opening batsman couldn’t complete the catch while he attempted to take it with his fingers pointing up. Washington’s reaction was one of disbelief but not more so than Ben Stokes.

The all-rounder who was in the dressing room reacted hilariously by covering his face with his mouth and looking on in complete incredulity. A video of the incident has since then gone viral on social media with fans enjoying the Englishman’s reaction to the equally incredulous event that happened on the pitch.
