The second day of the first Test against England was another frustrating one for India as the visitors kept piling on the runs. Beginning on their overnight score of 263/3, Joe Root who was on a hundred continued batting briskly along with Ben Stokes. The latter brought up his 50 in quick time and accelerated the score in the first session. He got out for 82 while going for a slog against Shahbaz Nadeem.
Root on the other hand kept going and got his double-hundred before tea, in the company of Ollie Pope. The Indian bowlers looked tired and frustrated and skipper Virat Kohli handed the ball to Rohit Sharma to have a bowl in a couple of overs before tea. Unlike when he bowled a delivery in the tour of Australia where he went for medium-pace, Rohit took the route of bowling off-spin here.

Rohit Sharma’s two overs before tea went for 7 runs. The opening batsman kept tossing the ball up hoping for the English batters to take risks but Pope and Root decided to play him safe. In the last ball before tea, Rohit decided to imitate former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh‘s bowling action and the same resulting in hilarious viewing. This attempt by Rohit Sharma has gone viral on social media.
India are currently under huge pressure and hopes of a win in the first Test seems to be vanishing quickly. Bar a collapse by the English batters in the second innings following a solid showing by the Indians in the first, a win is definitely out of reach for the hosts.
